Great importance is placed on ensuring that international and regional students have a positive UWI experience. The department provides support for any challenges or matters relating to Immigration and easy transition to the campus and county. In additional to general academic support the department implements two main programmes to support this cohort of students:

  1. Interventions are made between the student and the Immigration Division of Trinidad and Tobago as it relates to information dissemination and/or accessing the services of the Division.
  2. Peer-Pairing - This programme can be seen as a method of creating, encouraging and teaching socialization skills which would give students the strength, courage, determination and support to perform proactively within the UWI environment. It pairs strong 2nd/3rd year students with 1st year students and aims to provide new students with the necessary assistance for easy transition to the campus and country and helping them effectively navigate their first year at The UWI. The mentor must be motivated to be able to effectively communicate with the student, willing, dedicated and have a strong belief in equity for all in the society.
  3. Assistance and interventions with Immigration matters.
