The Dr. Keith Archibald Benevolent Fund was established in the year 2023 by a group of vested alumni and former residents of Freedom Hall (formerly Milner Hall), UWI St. Augustine Campus.  During their 2023 reunion at the St. Augustine Campus, the members of The Freedom Hall Network Group launched the benevolent fund in honor of their mentor, the former warden of the Milner Hall, the late Dr. Keith Archibald.

The fund aims to assist students from the Eastern Caribbean who are experiencing immediate and unexpected financial challenges.  Eligible students can access a one-time grant of up to TTD$1,500 to assist students in cases of emergency or situations based on financial need.  The Benevolent Fund will provide financial relief in times of hardship for the following:

  • Tuition fees
  • Books
  • Laptops/learning tools
  • Medications
  • Rent
  • Utilities
  • Transportation costs
  • Student conferences.

Terms and Conditions for Eligibility:

Students applying for consideration for this grant must meet the following eligibility requirements:

  • Applicants must be a currently registered student of The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus
  • Applicants must be a citizen of one of the countries of the Eastern Caribbean
  • Applicants must provide a written rationale for applying, in the designated area of the online application form. 

NB: Applicants will be contacted for an interview with the Manager/Representative of the Financial Advisory Services, Division of Student Services and Development, UWI STA

As part of the assessment for eligibility, applicants are required to attach a scanned copy of the following documents:

  • National ID and UWI Student ID
  • Parent/Guardian/Student’s mortgage payment or most recent rent payment receipt
  • Parent/Guardian/Student’s payslip or job letter/ proof of retrenchment
  • A letter stating the nature of business for self-employed persons
  • Medical documentation (in cases of illness)
  • Any other relevant document/evidence that supports your rationale for applying

Process for Applying:

STEP 1:  Click on the following link to complete the Application for

               Please be sure to include a detailed rationale for your application

STEP 2:  Upload the relevant supporting documents, as listed in the eligibility criteria above,
               into the designated area on the online application form

STEP 3:  Funds will be disbursed via ACH/direct bank deposit. 
               For this purpose, upload the top section of your bank statement into the designated
               area on the form showing the name on the Account,
               Account Number, Type of Account, Name of Bank, and Routing Number (if required).
               Please note that your balances are not required.

 

Disbursement of Funds:

Successful applicants may request to have approved funds applied towards their outstanding UWI fees or disbursed to their local bank account (banking information will be required to facilitate this transaction.  Please refer to the details on the application form). If you do not have a local bank account kindly, indicate this within the application.  Our department can assist with arrangements to set up a bank account with one of the local banks.

Students will receive notification of their successful application via e-mail address message and will be asked to confirm receipt of funds following disbursement.

Students will also be required to submit a one-page “Thank you letter” indicating the impact of the grant.  Please address the letter to: "The Freedom Hall Network Group"
