The St. Augustine Association of Postgraduate Students(STAAPS) 2025-2026 Grant

The St. Augustine Association of Postgraduate Students (S.T.A.A.P.S.) at the University of the West Indies (UWI) is committed to fostering an inclusive and supportive environment for all postgraduate students. The Association also aims to address key postgraduate concerns by advocating for enhanced academic support services, improving access to mental health resources, and lobby for increased funding opportunities and community support. The S.T.A.A.P.S., in service to their constituents, is offering financial support in the form of a grant to support postgraduate students who are experiencing financial challenges.
About the Grant:
The STAAPS Grant provides financial support to ten (10) eligible registered postgraduate students: five (5) postgraduate students pursuing a Postgraduate Diploma (PGDip) or taught Master of Science, and five (5) postgraduate students pursuing a Master of Philosophy (MPhil) or Doctor of Philosophy (PhD). Each successful applicant will receive a one-time, non-repayable grant of TT$4,000. Successful applicants may opt to have the funds disbursed to their local bank account or request that the funds be applied toward outstanding UWI tuition or other fees.
Terms and Conditions:
- Applicants must be currently registered postgraduate student at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus
- Applicants must not have been a previous recipient of the STAAPS Grant.
- Applicants must provide a written rationale for applying, in the designated area of the online application form.
- Applicants will be contacted for an interview with the Manager/Representative of the Financial Advisory Services, Division of Student Services and Development, UWI
- The awardees will be required to serve as S.T.A.A.P.S. Ambassadors.
- Applicants must attach scanned copies of the following documents:
- National Identification Card and Student Identification Card
Parent/Guardian/Student’s mortgage payment or most recent rent payment receipt
Parent/Guardian/Student's payslip or job letter/ proof of retrenchment
Letter stating the nature ofbusiness for self-employed persons
Medical doccumentation (in case of illness)
Any other relevant document or evidence supporting the rationale for applying

Process for Applying:
STEP 1: Click on the following link to complete the Application for the St. Augustine Association of Postgraduate Students (STAAPS) 2025-2026 Grant Form. Please be sure to include a detailed rationale for your application.
STEP 2: Upload the relevant supporting documents, as listed in the eligibility criteria above, into the designated area on the online application form.
STEP 3: Funds will be disbursed via ACH/direct bank deposit. For this purpose, upload the top section of your bank statement into the designated area on the form showing: Name on the Account, Account Number, Type of Account, Name of Bank, and Routing Number (if required). Please note, your balances are not required.
Disbursement of Funds:
Successful applicants may request to have these funds applied towards their outstanding UWI fees or disbursed to their local bank account.
Students will receive notification of their successful application via e-mail address message and will be asked to confirm receipt of funds following disbursement.
Please note that all requests will be subject to standard UWI financial aid processes and each request will be taken on a case-by-case basis, in relation to the resources available.
