About Chemical & Process Engineering
The Department of Chemical Engineering offers one (1) BSc programme in Chemical and Process Engineering and (2) MSc programmes in Chemical and Process Engineering, and Chemical and Process Engineering with Management.
BSc Chemical and Process Engineering
The BSc Chemical and Process Engineering is a three-year programme concerned with the design, construction and operation of all the processes involved in industrial production ranging from oil and gas processing to minerals such as bauxite and steel, as well as to a wider range of small processes such as detergency, paints, pharmaceuticals, food etc. The BSc in Chemical and Process Engineering aims to train and educate Chemical Engineering graduates on the route to professional engineering status by providing students with the foundational science and mathematics, core engineering principles and design fundamentals involved in the safe, profitable and environmentally-sound design, construction and operation of regional process industries.
The degree is accredited by the global professional membership for chemical, biochemical and process engineers, IChemE (Institution of Chemical Engineers) to the BEng Level, en route to CEng and follows the UK system of grading; First, Upper Second, Lower Second, and Pass class ranges. Students are required to complete 95 credits over a range of 33 courses. All courses are compulsory. The Department ensures that its curriculum is tightly linked to its learning outcomes (LO's) and satisfies the IChemE’s learning outcome requirements for academic programmes en route to chartered engineering status.
The objective of all our Chemical and Process Engineering degrees is to prepare students to enter careers in the regional process industries. In the final year programme, students are required to carry out the design of a plant-this being the culmination of the programme of studies. The programme is ideal as a background for postgraduate studies in many areas, including petroleum engineering.
Graduates of the Chemical & Process Engineering Programme will find employment in all aspects of the process industries, including design, process engineering, project engineering, operations management, technical services and marketing.

Postgraduate Programmes in Chemical and Process Engineering
Our postgraduate programmes are geared towards the generation of new knowledge while developing and transferring methods, techniques, methodologies and tools that lead to improved processes in industry. Applicants should normally hold an Upper Second Class Honours degree or its equivalent.
The MSc Chemical and Process Engineering, and MSc Chemical and Process Engineering with Management are accredited by the Institution of Chemical Engineers (IChemE).
