Introduction to Environmental and Natural Resource Management

Course description

This course is designed to provide Environmental and Natural Resource Management students with the philosophies and tools needed to understand the economic and management principles of environmental and natural resource management. It looks at the issues and methods in making decisions about environmental assets especially in the context of sustainable development, poverty alleviation and policy agendas. The necessity and challenges in communicating with stakeholders in the area of participatory management will also be discussed. The course will introduce students to the basics of environmental law and policies implemented across the world, and discuss managing the negative impacts of climate change and pollution. It also develops the application of microeconomic principles and shows how these can be applied to managing the environment and natural resources. Further, relevant environmental issues will be examined to show how the theoretical principles covered in the material will apply to the real world. The course will be delivered in a blended format and examined by an in-course examination, quizzes, and a final examination.
