LING 2305 Introduction to Educational Linguistics (2)

Pre-requisites: LING 1001, LING 1002 and LING 1005


Linguistics, as a discipline, has the potential to make significant contributions to Education. These contributions are wide and varied. This course enhances the level of linguistic knowledge, awareness and understanding of the student as he/she examines the potential contribution of the discipline to the processes of education. It promotes an understanding of the nature and purpose of education as well as of the processes of education in formal education systems. It also addresses the obvious need for teachers in the Caribbean to be acquainted with the basic linguistic information needed for successful functioning in the classroom.

Method of Instruction: 2 lectures and 1 tutorial per week

Assessment: 40% in-course assessment, 60% final examination
