LING 6105 Principles and Approaches for TESOL

Pre-requisites: LING 1001, LING 1002, LING 1005

This course addresses the issue of teacher development, with a focus on helping teachers to reflect on and assess their pedagogical practices and assumptions about teaching and learning. Participants explore methods and approaches in language teaching from the historical “methods” perspective to the current “postmethod” perspective. Although this course is intended for those interested in teaching English, the concepts presented are applicable to foreign/second language teaching in general.

Method of Instruction: 3 weekly seminar hours
Assessment: 50% in-course assessment and 50% final examination

This is a course on the Dip TESOL programme, and is normally offered in Semester 2.
