Why did you choose to study this programme? Why Social Work at The University of the West Indies, St Augustine?

My academic journey commenced at the age of thirty-six (36), with four children, and I chose UWI because I wanted to study in a diverse, global university rooted in the Caribbean.

What specific areas do you like best about being a student in the Department of Behavioral Sciences?

The diversity of the curriculum has advanced my knowledge, competencies, skills and networking capacity. As a student I was exposed to various opportunities such as attending practicum, workshops, travelling opportunities, conferences as both attendee and presenter, volunteering opportunities and my research exposure. All of these were made possible by the Social Work Unit.

How have the courses offered by the Department aided in developing your knowledge, competencies, and skills?

These arrays of experiences facilitated personal and professional growth and development.  The skills, techniques, knowledge and competencies I acquired over time prepared me as a Social Worker to enhance and transform the lives of individuals, families, youths-at-risk and communities through both volunteerism and practice
