Prior to joining the faculty in the Department of Behavioural Sciences at the University of the West Indies in November 2019, Malisa Neptune-Figaro worked as a Lecturer at Florida State University and a part time instructor at the University of Trinidad and Tobago. In addition to teaching, she is committed to research in criminology and public safety. Her research agenda entails Migration and Immigrant Studies, Violent Extremism as well as Transnational Crimes. She has worked on several research projects which include analysing data on the Florida Sentencing of Immigrants and the C-Core Mentorship Programme, which was aimed at rehabilitating youths in the Criminal Justice System. She also volunteered at the Florida Department of Juvenile Justice and is a member of the American Society of Criminology (ASC). She has presented several research projects at various local and international conferences and seminars. She has published research on immigrants in the United States of America and expanded her research portfolio to include the immigrants in the Caribbean context and violent Islamic extremism.
