DCIT New Student Orientation

2013-2014

The new student orientation for The Department of Computing and Information Technology (DCIT) was held on Tuesday 3rd September 2013 @ 11:00 a.m. in FST C1. This session was carded for the new undergraduate students of the department and is geared towards providing them with a basic understanding of the department and its academic programmes.

The Head of Department, Dr. Mohan, welcomed the new students to UWI/DCIT and introduced the staff members present. Dr. Bernard gave an overview of the department and its website. Ms. Khan, the Administrative Assistant, gave a summary of the prizes available to the students as an incentive for exceptional academic performance. Dr. Goodridge gave an enlightening talk on the careers available as graduates of Computer Science and Information Technology.

Jonathan Weekes spoke to the students concerning the student exchange/study abroad programme outlining the benefits and responsibilities to the students and encouraged the students to participate in the programme provided that they meet the GPA requirement. Since the department has a vibrant and active Student Staff Liaison Committee, former member Lawrence Henderson spoke at length on the benefits of the committee to the students and encouraged the students to join.

Finally, Mr. Seegobin and Mr. Joseph from the technical arm of the department gave presentations on the various facilities which are available to the students inclusive of the departmental labs and free software available through the MSDN academic alliance.
