MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN

It is my distinct pleasure to welcome you to the Faculty of Science & Technology (FST) at The University of the West Indies, St. Augustine. We are delighted that you are joining our academic community. Our faculty is grounded in scientific excellence and stands at the forefront of teaching, research, and innovation in the Caribbean. We are committed to preparing our students with the knowledge, skills, and competencies needed to navigate and address the challenges of an increasingly dynamic and ever‑changing world.

At the Faculty of Science & Technology, we take pride in offering a comprehensive range of programmes that span both the pure sciences and technology‑oriented disciplines. Our degrees cover the fundamental sciences including Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, and Physics, which are delivered with modern perspectives and aligned to the evolving needs of today’s global landscape. Complementing these are our innovative programmes in emerging and applied areas such as Actuarial Science, Biochemistry, Biomedical Technology, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Data Science, Electronics, Environmental Science & Technology, Information Technology, Renewable Energy Technology, and Statistics. We also provide opportunities for sub‑specializations or completion of minors within select degree programmes, in areas such as Cloud Computing and Artificial Intelligence, Industrial and Analytical Chemistry, Materials Science, Medical Physics and Bioengineering, Microbiology, Marine Science, and Zoology.

Our programmes are delivered by a team of highly qualified and dedicated academic, administrative, technical, and support staff. Together, we are committed to providing a rich and engaging educational experience that empowers you to think critically, analyze data effectively, and synthesize knowledge. This approach not only deepens your understanding of the world around us but also fosters the development of strong problem-solving skills.

This booklet contains essential information on Faculty regulations as well as detailed descriptions of our undergraduate programmes. It will be a valuable resource as you plan and navigate your academic journey. I encourage you to consult it regularly and to take full advantage of the guidance available through scheduled meetings with your academic advisors.

The University also provides a robust support system through the Division of Student Services & Development, which offers a wide range of services to enhance your well‑being and success. These include counselling and psychological support, career guidance, and financial advisory services, among others. Additionally, many departments host Help Desk sessions aimed at supporting your academic growth. I also encourage you to engage in student clubs and campus activities, which can enrich your university experience and contribute to your personal and professional development.

Once again, welcome to the Faculty of Science & Technology. I wish you every success in the exciting journey that lies ahead.
