This 3-day course will provide an intensive introduction to bioinformatics tools used to handle and analyze Genome data.

The UNU-Biolac has sponsored eight fellowships to international participants. The last date for receiving applications is 30 November, 2010.

We have seats available for 12 local participants. Interested persons may apply till 30 November 2010.

Workshop Objectives

· To bring together researchers from various disciplines who have an interest in data analysis, to explore and present innovative approaches to this subject.

· To train-the-trainers so that the new bioinformatics tools can be incorporated in both the undergraduate and postgraduate curricula, so that the benefit of the course can be passed on to future practitioners.

· To develop bioinformatics capacity within the Caribbean, towards improving the capacity of the region to better utilize genomics, proteomics information generated worldwide.

· The workshop is designed for researchers/ postdoctoral/ faculty in the field of human and plant genetics, biotechnology, biostatistics, molecular biology and medical sciences.

Broad Topics

Introduction to R and Bioconductor
Biological databases and data mining
Two-color cDNA arrays/ Affymetrix
Analysis of RNA-Seq data
Transcript centric annotations and high-throughput sequencing.
Clinical assessment of personal genome sequence
(All sessions will be followed by practical/ lab demonstration and practice sessions)

Participants must have a basic working knowledge of molecular biology/ biochemistry or medicine/
Genetics statistics and must be directly involved in research covered by the workshop.

To apply for participation, submit your curriculum vitae and a short list of publications (if any) to:
