Project Details

Anthurium is one of the most important oranmental crops in the cut-flower market worldwide. Since the  cut-flower market is expanding, there is enormous potential to increase anthurium exports from Trinidad and Tobago, which may lead the way for export of other indigenous resources. As demand is increasing it is imperative that research is dedicated to the development of cultivars with a range of desirable traits, such as disease resistance, strong colour and long vase-life.  Vase-life of anthurium cultivars can vary from less than two weeks to more than six weeks. If we can determine the mechanism that underlies this genetic variation, vase-life can be characterized and extended.
