MESSAGE FROM THE ACTING DIRECTOR
In an increasingly interconnected and rapidly changing world, the study and practice of international relations have an increasingly important impact on countries’ ability to successfully manage international and domestic shocks and generate sustainable economic growth and development. The architecture for international relations, the way countries use finance, trade and international security arrangements to wield power, and how countries collaborate to promote the stability of the global order through multilateral arrangements are vital elements for developing countries trying to navigate an increasingly complex and difficult international environment.
The study of international relations is, therefore, a critical component of the development dynamics around the world for both developed and developing countries. The Institute of International Relations, University of the West Indies, St. Augustine, is the premier institution specialising in international relations and global studies training, research, and policy advice in the Caribbean. Our multidisciplinary graduate programmes in international relations and global studies are designed to provide students with the critical knowledge needed to operate effectively in international politics, business, trade, finance, and diplomatic missions, as well as regional and international organisations. Our stakeholders include a wide range of institutions operating in the international relations and global studies space regionally and internationally. Our students, therefore, become part of an extended network of professionals operating in this space, enhancing their connectivity and employability. I would therefore like to welcome our incoming cohort of students to this dynamic and exciting world of international relations and global studies. I am confident that your time with us will be very rewarding, increasing your capacity for critical thinking, your expertise and your support network.
