TESTIMONIALS FROM OUR ALUMNI

Meet Nicole Francis - Postgraduate Diploma in International Relations and Global Studies - 2025

Nicole.jpg

To all pursuing a postgraduate diploma or master's degree in International Relations and Global Studies:

The fact that you selected this course of study means you're capable of pushing the envelope and adding to the wealth of discourse on contemporary global issues. Every phase of the journey is significant. Appreciate the theories you learn. Though they may seem abstract, they add a layer of depth to your newfound knowledge and help shape your perspectives on International Relations and Diplomacy. There may be times when you question whether the field will open avenues to access relevant job opportunities, however, keep focused on your goals and aspirations. Read consistently, fully utilise the library services, ask questions, even if they seem incoherent or may not be received well by your classmates, participate actively and listen intently to the lectures.  (Nicole Francis)

Your voice adds dimension to the global conversations you study, and that authenticity is one of your strongest assets. Own your academic development and never rely

The MSc International Relations programme was very attractive to me not just because of the academics, but also the emphasis on networking, academic and professional forums, and field trips to international organizations. Thanks to the IIR’s holistic approach to student development, I can say that I left the programme a well-rounded International Relations practitioner thanks to the initiatives outside the classroom that exposed students to the real world of diplomacy.

Meet Shelly Ann Tirbanie - Master of Science in Global Studies -2023

The transition from undergraduate studies to the MSc in Global Studies was astonishing. It meant later nights, further analytical reasoning and delving into unknown intimidating areas. This “academic shock” though, was buffered by the depth of expertise and experience of the lecturers at IIR as their guidance allowed me to navigate through a new academic environment; not forgetting the administrative staff who was always available as well.  At the end of this journey, I became enthusiastic not only about advancing my learning but also passionate about the work I completed at the Institute and its potential to make a difference.

Meet Dr. Samantha Allahar - PhD in International Relations 2025

My time at the IIR was a valuable investment. It encouraged Caribbean-focused reflection and broadened my global perspective. IR studies helped me develop research, analytical, and communication skills under supportive lecturers. The experience was genuinely beneficial to me as I am sure it would be for anyone considering this programme.
