In partnership with the International Institute for Sustainable Development, the Campus conducted research on Border Carbon Adjustments (BCA) in Trinidad and Tobago. This study is part of a global initiative to investigate the impact of BCAs on a country’s economic, social, and environmental landscape. Trinidad and Tobago is among the five countries selected to participate in this study, alongside Brazil, Canada, the United Kingdom, and Vietnam. The project comprises five main components, including conducting two stakeholder dialogues, developing a comprehensive background paper to share with stakeholders, drafting a national report on BCAs, participating in global stakeholder dialogues, and continually collecting data to support the project.
To better understand the impact of BCAs locally, two stakeholder dialogues were hosted, the first on January 31st, and the second on March 14th, 2024. Government, industry, the financial sector, labour, academia, and civil society engaged in discussions that provided feedback on the potential impact of BCAs on various sectors in Trinidad and Tobago. A country report was produced and shared from these rich discussions that included policy recommendations.
