The University of the West Indies, St Augustine, received an invitation from the La Brea Committee for Sustainable Community Development to participate in the La Brea Economic Development Day on July 10th, 2024, under the patronage of the Honourable Stephen Mc Clashie, Member of Parliament for La Brea. This initiative aligns with the university’s Triple A Strategy – Access, Alignment and Agility, where The UWI intends to widen the access and opportunities for all to quality tertiary education. It also forms part of our UWI in the Community initiative to bring the university closer to the people.
The event was led by the Office of the Campus Principal and saw the participation of all eight faculties, including the Admissions Department, Department of Student Services and Development, and Department of Graduate Studies and Research. The Faculties discussed their high-quality degree programmes and short courses as well as their impactful research. Some of this was on display through innovations, such as the Biophyte 1.0, a product designed and produced at the Campus in response to farmers’ and home gardeners’ needs. The Division of Student Services and Development is also holding career guidance and financial advising workshops throughout the day. Additionally, we have our Graduate Studies and Research department to highlight postgraduate programmes and our Admissions department to assist students with applying.
