The UWI St Augustine Campus signed an agreement with the Yara Trinidad Ltd (YARA) and Trinidad Nitrogen Co Ltd (TRINGEN) on 06 November 2024 to work collaboratively on upskilling local farmers and communities in the principles of sustainable soil nutrition training and regenerative agriculture. The agreement sees the Campus undertaking the role of coordinating research and development activities through staff and students in relation to soil testing, sustainable soil management, crop nutrition and fertiliser management. TRINGEN agreed to sponsor two students to pursue MPhils in Soil Science over a two-year period at a cost of TT$672,000 while YARA will coordinate and manage the scholarship’s funds and work directly with us to assist with the onsite training of farmers on sustainable land regenerative agricultural techniques.
