Principal’s Business Breakfast

On November 27th, 2025, the Campus Principal hosted a second Business Breakfast at the UWI Inn and Conference Centre, bringing together over 40 senior industry leaders from Trinidad and Tobago. The event welcomed distinguished guests, including the Honourable Satyakama Maharaj, Minister of Trade, Investment and Tourism, and His Excellency Guillaume Pierre, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Embassy of the French Republic.

The Business Breakfast showcased the Campus’s burgeoning commercial potential and investment-ready innovations, emphasising a growing portfolio of market-driven products and opportunities for collaboration with industry partners. Participants explored how engaging with The UWI can provide access to research-driven innovation, emerging talent, and tailored solutions that address local and regional needs.

The event featured compelling presentations from technical leads on eight innovative product lines and entrepreneurial initiatives poised for commercialisation. These initiatives highlight the Campus’s commitment to fostering strategic partnerships that drive economic growth and innovation in the region:

  • UWI Fine Cocoa: Locally produced chocolate products
  • University Field Station Milk: The only fully pasteurised milk produced in Trinidad and Tobago
  • Biophyt 1.0: A bioprotectant that enhances plant growth and disease resistance
  • OJA001s: A Sargassum-based Bio Stimulant promoting plant development
  • IdenTT: Locally developed fingerprint identification technology
  • Seal-It: Industrial and marine-grade asphalt-based sealant
