STTL/NIHERST STREAM Workforce Development Conference

The University of the West Indies, St Augustine Campus (The UWI STA) was invited to participate in the Shell Trinidad and Tobago Ltd (STTL)/National Institute of Higher Education, Research, Science and Technology (NIHERST) Workforce Development Conference on 07 March 2025 at the Hilton Hotel. The objective of the STTL’s programme is to strengthen the energy sector’s talent pipeline and the economic diversification efforts of the country in areas including Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM). This remit was since expanded to include Science, Technology, Research, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics (STREAM). The Conference was a collaborative effort with NIHERST, whose focus is on enhancing awareness and interest in STREAM areas and transforming attitudes toward STREAM careers. The Faculty of Science and Technology participated in this initiative on behalf of the Campus. The Faculty’s exhibits included interactive displays, museum pieces, fossils, displays from the National Herbarium, mathematics and physics games and chemistry experiments. Students were also treated to a virtual reality (VR) experience using VR headsets.
