What documents do I need in order to complete the application?

No documents are required. Simply complete the application form and submit it via e-mail to Diplomatic.Academy@sta.uwi.edu

What is the deadline date for application?

We encourage you to apply early as there is limited space available. Applications will be accepted until intake capacity has been filled.

Who can apply?

The Diplomatic Academy of the Caribbean targets a wide cross-section of individuals – including diplomats and politicians, leaders in the public and  private sectors, labour and industrial relations, nongovernmental organizations, fields of diplomacy, international cooperation, negotiations and transactions across the region and beyond.

Are there any entry prerequisites/admission requirements?

An undergraduate university degree OR relevant years of work experience and appropriate professional qualifications. Proficiency in English is required as these modules are taught in English.

How will I benefit from the training at the Diplomatic Academy of the Caribbean?

The Diplomatic Academy of the Caribbean meets a clearly felt need, in the absence of any established training and learning facility regionally, to offer programmes in diplomacy at various levels and on diverse subjects relevant to the global 21st century socio-political and economic environment.

Who are the experts delivering the modules?

The Diplomatic Academy of the Caribbean invites a number of prominent international and regional experts to deliver and lead the modules with a Caribbean perspective. These scholars and practitioners in diplomacy have proven track records in their respective fields.

What is included in the fees?

N.B. Each participant is expected to make his/her own arrangements regarding accommodation and travel.

What financial assistance is available?

Some scholarships are available based on need, but it is expected that governments, organizations/employers will support participants coming from their respective countries. Groups of 10 persons from the same organization may get a discount, please enquire directly with us. Special discounts for NGOs are also available.

NB: Please note that if you wish to be sponsored by your employer/organization, please enquire about the specific internal training selection procedure of your organization before you send your application to us.

Is a certificate awarded upon completion of the module?

Yes. A certificate of training from the Diplomatic Academy of the Caribbean will be awarded upon the satisfactory completion of each module. The method of assessment varies in each module, based on either oral or written evaluation criteria.

How long are the modules?

The duration of each module varies, but the typical time frame is between 3 to 5 days, from 9.00 a.m. to 4.00 p.m. and includes a lunch break of one-hour and two coffee breaks each day.

How are the modules structured?

The modular training and learning approach developed, draws on modern training and learning technologies, follows a specific structure and a set of practical exercises and simulations. Each module will form an integral part of a wider training and learning programme but can be delivered as a ‘stand-alone’ feature, thanks to its specific content, addressed to individual target groups and beneficiaries.

Each module comprises formal lectures and a practical component. Practical exercises can take the form of workshops, group tasks, simulations and field visits.

How many hours are required to successfully complete a module?

Reading materials will be provided to participants before the start of the modules. It is expected that participants will be up to date with the readings before training sessions. Some experts may give home assignments during the duration of a module.

Where can I stay during the course?

Each participant has to make his/her own travel and accommodation arrangements. Participants are strongly encouraged to book accommodations at the University Inn Boutique Bed & Breakfast, which is conveniently located for your comfort at The UWI St. Augustine’s main campus, catering to your immediate accommodation needs.
