This programme provides integrated training in Linguistics, English Literature, and Education, aimed primarily at those who wish to pursue careers in English language, English literature, and Language Arts education, at the Secondary level and beyond.

Students will develop an advanced understanding of varieties of English and English Creoles, their functions in literary texts, and the skills to apply this knowledge as educators.

Research 

In the final year, ELLE students have the opportunity to carry out a Linguistics research project guided by staff. Several previous student projects have been published in international journals.

Many of our graduates become Language Arts teachers with the Ministry of Education. Others go on to pursue further postgraduate training and research. Many alumni are members of the Society for Caribbean Linguistics (https://www.scl-online.net/), which organises regular events, provides a forum for language research and advocacy, as well as maintains relationships with researchers and educators around the region and beyond.
