BA in Linguistics requires 36 credits
LEVEL I
The following three (3) Level I* courses are compulsory:
- LING 1001 Introduction to Phonetics and Phonology
- LING 1002 Introduction to Morphology and Syntax
- LING 1005 Introduction to Language
PLUS
- FOUN 1001 English for Academic Purposes
OR
- FOUN 1106 Academic English for Research Purposes
PLUS
- FOUN 1103 Argument and Report Writing
OR
- FOUN 1104 Writing about Literature
LEVEL II
Two (2) Theory courses:
- LING 2001 Phonology
- LING 2002 Syntax
One English Linguistics course chosen from between the following:
- LING 2402 Structure of the English Language
OR
- LING 2403 Change and Development in the English Language
Two (2) Sociolinguistics course chosen from among the following:
- LING 2302 Sociolinguistics
- LING 2304 Language Situations in the Modern World
OR
- LING 2501 Language, Gender, and Sex
PLUS
- FOUN 1210 Science, Medicine and Technology in Society
- FOUN 1301 Law, Governance, Economy in Society
LEVEL III
- LING 3201 Caribbean Dialectology
- LING 3202 Creole Linguistics
- LING 3099 Special Project in Linguistics
Select Two (2) courses from the Caribbean Language structure courses below:
- LING 2902 Structure & Usage of French-Lexicon Creole I (Patois)
- LING 2903 Structure & Usage of French-Lexicon Creole II (Patois)
- LING 2819 Structure and Usage of Caribbean Sign Language I
- LING 2820 Structure and Usage of Caribbean Sign Language II
The following courses are strongly recommended:
- LING 3001 Advanced Phonology
- LING 3002 Advanced Syntax
FOREIGN LANGUAGE REQUIREMENT (FLR) FOR MAJOR IN LINGUISTICS
Students entering in the Academic Year 2023/2024 are required to complete three credits of Foreign Language
Requirement (FLR) course.
