Course Description:  

This course covers the major developments which have shaped the history of Africa, Africans and diaspora communities worldwide, from the age of Abolitionism and Emancipation to the present time.

Emphasis will be placed on the survival initiatives, cultural and otherwise, of African-descended communities in the various parts of the New World; on the comparative historical experience of African diaspora communities; and on linkages between these communities.
