Dr.Debbie McCollin has been a Lecturer at The University of The West Indies, St. Augustine, Trinidad and Tobago since 2012. She holds a BA in History and Psychology from Hood College, Frederick, Maryland and a PhD in History and a Certificate in University Teaching and Learning from the University of The West Indies St. Augustine. Some of her publications include World War II and the Caribbean edited with Karen E. Eccles (UWI Press, 2017), the 2016 edited work In the Fires of Hope: Essays on the Modern History of Trinidad and Tobago 1962-2012, and book chapters “Chacachacare: The Island of Lepers 1922-1979 in Hospitals and Communities 1100–1960 (Chris Bonfield, ed., Peter Lang, 2013) and “Health, Services and Women in Trinidad and Tobago 1938-1962”, in Health and Medicine in the Circum-Caribbean 1800-1968 (De Barros et al ed. Routledge, 2009). Her current research is focused on the History of Health and Medicine in the West Indies in the twentieth century, the impact of World War II on The West Indies, Child Welfare in the Caribbean and Digital History. She is also the project team leader for The Caribbean Corona Chronicles Oral History Digital Archival Project.
