What is it?

It is a gathering (“party” in this sense) of persons who would like to have Windows 8 installed on their laptops/tablets. As this is a gathering there will be more persons who may be able to assist with any problems or errors that may be encountered.

Who is it for?

The event is mainly for students of the Department of Computing and Information Technology (DCIT), Department of Mathematics and Statistics (DMS) and the Department of Electrical and Comuter Engineering (DECE). These students will qualify for the Dream Spark Premium benefits from their respective department and can get their free copy of Windows 8.

Other students can attend the event and even install Windows 8 on their laptops but they will have to provide their original Windows 8 installation media.

 

When is it?

The event will be held on Thursday 27th June 2013 from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

 

Where is it?

The venue is the DCIT Computer Lab 2, Second Floor in the Natural Sciences Building.

 

 

What do I do now?

Once you are registered in a degree programme with the DCITDMS or DECE you can apply for your DreamSpark Premium benefits via the departmental websites and download Windows 8.

You can prepare your laptop for the upgrade by following these steps:

  1. Ensure that you have your recovery discs and driver discs that came with your laptop/tablet.
  2. Check to see if your laptop/tablet is compatible for the upgrade using the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant.
  3. Backup your computer to an external harddrive. The following link shows how to make a system image and this link shows how to backup your computer files.
  4. Come to the install party with your power adapters and accessories that came with your laptop/tablet such as an external DVD Burner.
