B Sc. Programme

  • Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects at CSEC/CXC General Proficiency which must include English Language and Mathematics (Grades I or II pre-1998 and Grades I, II or III from June 1998) or GCE O’level /BGCSE or approved equivalent

AND

  • Passes in at least two (2) subjects at GCE A-level or passes in at least two 2-Unit CXC (CAPE) subjects or approved equivalent. [For entry to Management Studies, Psychology and Accounting, high A-level/CAPE grades or approved equivalent, are required in three (3) subjects excluding Communication and Caribbean Studies at CAPE or General Paper at A’level]

OR

  • Associate degrees, diplomas and certificates from other approved tertiary institutions. Applicants in this category who hold an approved Associate degree, diploma/certificate are required to have attained a B+ average or a minimum GPA of 2.5.

Note: For Majors and Specials offered in the Faculty of Social Sciences applicants are required to have a minimum of a Grade II before 1998 or Grade III after 1998 in Mathematics at the CSEC General Level /O’Level or a qualification deemed by the Faculty Board to be equivalent .

Students admitted into the BSc Economics, BSc Economics (Special) and undergraduate degrees offered by the Department of Management Studies who do not have a Pass in Additional Mathematics, Advanced Level Mathematics, AS Mathematics or CAPE Mathematics Units I & II, will be required to write a Mathematics Proficiency Test (MPT) within the first two (2) weeks of Semester 1. This DOES NOT APPLY to students admitted to the Diploma in Accounting.

B Sc. Social Work
  • Passes in a minimum of five (5) subjects at CSEC/CXC General Proficiency which must include English Language and Mathematics (Grades I or II pre-1998 and Grades I, II or III from June 1998) or GCE O’level /BGCSE

AND

  • Passes in at least two (2) subjects at GCE A-level or two 2-Unit CAPE subjects, or approved equivalent

OR

  • Other approved Associate degrees, Diplomas and Certificates, including the two-year certificate in Social work from the UWI

Note: Applicants in this category, who hold an approved Associate degree, Diploma and Certificate, are required to have attained a B+ average.

 

Special Departmental Requirements:

B Sc. Social Work (Special)
ALSO
  • Two (2) confidential references attesting to suitability for professional Social Work to be submitted to the Assistant Registrar (Admissions)
  • Attendance (as requested) at an interview with the Faculty of Social Sciences personnel, or in respect of applicants from non-campus countries, with persons nominated by the Faculty
  • For applicants from non-campus countries, interviews will be arranged with persons nominated by the Faculty. As part of the interview process, the applicant will be required to write a personal statement of between 250- 300 words in length, giving his or her reasons for wanting to study for the degree in Social Work.
B Sc. Hospitality & Tourism Management

Completion of Trinidad & Tobago Hospitality and Tourism Institute (TTHTI) Associate degree in Hospitality and Tourism Management with a minimum Grade Point Average (GPA) of 3.0 based on the TTHTI grade point system.

Graduates of other Associate degree programmes equivalent to TTHTI’s revised programme will also be considered for admission on a case-by-case basis.

For BSc Insurance & Risk Management
  • Admission to the programme will be open to persons who satisfy the matriculation requirements for admission into the Department of Management Studies as set out in the Faculty of Social Sciences policy on admission.
  • In addition, holders of specialized qualifications in insurance such as the Certificate in Insurance, Diploma in Insurance and Certificate in Risk by a recognized Institute, and who meet the lower level matriculation of the UWI, and are successful at an interview to be conducted by a panel approved by the Dean, will be eligible to be admitted.
  • In admitting students to the programme, preference will be given to candidates currently employed in the insurance sector

 

Diploma Programmes:

Diploma in Public Sector Management (Evening University)

Applicants should:

  1. be holders of a degree from an approved university
    OR
  2. hold an approved technical or professional qualification awarded by an approved body
    OR
  3. have, in the opinion of the University, practical experience or other qualifications of special relevance to the course

Note: Persons seeking admission, who do not satisfy the requirements at (1) or (2) will normally be required to have at least five (5) years experience in executive or administrative work.

 

Certificate Programmes:

Certificate In Public Administration (Evening University)

Applicants should:

  • have Passes in 5 CSEC (CXC) subjects including English Language and Mathematics at CSEC (CXC) General Proficiency (Grades I or II pre-1998 and Grades I, II or III from June 1998) or GCE O’level /BGCSE

AND

  • have, in the opinion of the University, practical experience or other qualifications of special relevance to the course

Note: Persons seeking admission will normally be required to have at least five (5) years experience in civil service work or other relevant experience.

Certificate in Local Government Studies (Evening University)
  • Passes in five (5) subjects including English Language and Mathematics at CSEC (CXC) General Proficiency (Grades I or II pre-1998 and Grades I, II or III from June 1998) or GCE O’level /BGCSE

AND

  • At least five (5) years of practical work experience

Note: Special consideration will be given to unqualified mature persons who have substantive work experience. Cognisant of the special focus of this programme, preferential consideration will be given to Councillors and Aldermen. For such candidates, the five-year working experience criterion will be waived for those who satisfy the lower level matriculation. Councillors and Aldermen should have at least one year of service in office and must satisfy lower level matriculation.

Certificate in Management Information Systems (Summer Programme)
  • Passes in five (5) subjects including English Language and Mathematics at CSEC (CXC) General Proficiency (Grades I or II pre-1998 and Grades I, II or III from June 1998) or GCE O’level /BGCSE

AND

  • At least two (2) years experience in a computer environment
