The Health Financing Progress Matrix (HFPM) was developed by the World Health Organization (WHO) to assist countries assess whether their health financing system is aligned with Universal Health Coverage goals. The HEU, Centre for Health Economics, in collaboration with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) hosted a webinar during which health financing experts who developed the HFPM presented the tool and shared experiences of other countries that implemented the matrix. The session was followed by a discussion by key personnel from the Caribbean's health sector on the usefulness of the HFPM to countries in the region and possible next steps.
Members of the HEU will be presenting on "Poverty and the Rights of the Child: A Look at Trinidad and Tobago" at a Virtual Forum hosted by the United Nations Association of Trinidad and Tobago. The Theme of the Forum is CONVENTION ON THE RIGHTS OF THE CHILD.
The HEU hosted a webinar on the "Economic Implications and Policy Options in the Caribbean" as it relates to SSBs. Dr. Althea La Foucade, Director of the HEU brought welcome remarks to participants. This was followed by a thought provoking presentation by Dr. Anton Cumberbatch, Technical Advisor (HEU) on "Mitigating the Risks Associated with NCDs". We also had Ms. Michelle Ash, Chief Nutritionist & Head of Department, Nutrition & Metabolism Division, Ministry of Health, Trinidad and Tobago who presented on "SSB Policy in Trinidad and Tobago" and Dr. Miriam Alvarado, Centre for Diet and Activity Research, University of Cambridge who presented on "SSB Taxation in Barbados". The session ended with closing remarks from Professor Karl Theodore, Advisor (HEU).
