SHORT TERM TRAINING

 

INTRODUCTION TO STATA, SPSS, AND EXCEL

These sessions target students (undergraduate and postgraduate) from the social sciences, staff from regional and international Government Ministries and Institutions and other professionals. The introductory courses provide students with a general understanding of the software and some data entry, cleaning and analysis skills.  At the end of these sessions, students are able to:
  • Start the program and enter data;
  • Define and modify variables;
  • Import, open and save data files;
  • Modify Data Files;
  • Run Basic Descriptive Statistics Analysis; and
  • Construct Basic Graphical Plots.

MENDELEY REFERENCING SOFTWARE
The Mendeley software is a referencing tool that allows researchers to enter and import online references, edit references and automatically generate a Reference List/Bibliography in any citation style.  Training in the use of Mendeley is usually offered as part of the HEU’s Introductory Training Sessions.

 

INTRODUCTION TO ECONOMIC EVALUATION IN HEALTHCARE
This course is designed to introduce economic evaluation (EE) in health to allow participants to understand and work with economic evaluations in health settings. This includes understanding and interpreting economic evaluations in literature and in the promotional materials of pharmaceutical and medical device manufacturers.

INTRODUCTION TO COSTING OF HEALTH PROGRAMMES

The course introduces participants to the basic concepts of costing and their application to the health sector.  At the end of this course participants will be expected to understand:
  • The importance of costing as it relates to the provision of health care service, given scarce/limited resources.
  • Types of costs and methods of analysing costs.
  • Use of Step-down approach to cost healthcare services
  • Use of the OneHealth tool to cost healthcare services
  • How costing tools and output can be used to enhance management and policy decision-making in the health sector.
