Tropical Animal Science and Production has emerged as an area of regional and global importance. The challenge of future research is to develop better methods for improving production in all livestock species within tropical regions. This programmes overall objective is to provide quality and relevant education, training and research in the fields of animal nutrition, welfare, and production with the aim of improving productivity of livestock, and better utilization of animal resources in tropical, neo-tropical and similar agro-ecological environments.
To be admitted to the PG Diploma, candidates must normally possess:
a. a first degree in Agriculture, or related Biological Science degree
b. previous equivalent level of education and relevant experience which would be acceptable to the University
Mature students who do not satisfy the above requirements, but who have considerable work experience and who are deemed capable of achieving the standard of work required for the programmes may be permitted to enter these programmes at the discretion of the Faculty and the University.
This Post-graduate Diploma programme is offered only as part of the Evening University at the St. Augustine Campus and will normally require 1 year of Full-time study, or 2 years of Part-time study exclusive of the time required for taking departmental prerequisite courses where necessary.
A candidate for the PG Diploma in Tropical Animal Science and Production will be required to complete five (5) core courses and one (1) elective giving a total of 25 credits.

To qualify for the award of the Postgraduate Diploma, candidates must pass all core courses and one elective (25 credits). Candidates must meet all the requirements for the award of the diploma.
The coursework component varies depending on the course with either 100% Coursework or 70% Coursework and 30% Final Exam.
For courses with an Exam component the candidate must attain at least 50% in the coursework and 50% in the final examination, in order to secure a passing grade. The written examination for selected courses shall be held at the end of the semester in which it is offered.
Candidates who fail no more than two courses, may be permitted to rewrite examinations only by the Board for Graduate Studies and Research on the recommendation of the Faculty’s Board of Examiners. Candidates who fail more than two courses or who fail any course more than twice may be required to withdraw from the programme.
Candidates who do not sit examinations in courses for which they are registered shall be deemed to have failed.
