There are around 115,000 described species of hymenoptera. Around two thirds are parasitic wasps. The rest include the social insects such as the honeybees and ants.

Trinidad & Tobago Hymenoptera

Many species of the ants, bees and wasps of Trinidad & Tobago have been well studied with the Aculeata (stinging hymenoptera) being very well known. However, much work still needs to be done in particular on the parasitic wasps which it is thought may turn out to be even more speciose than the beetles.

UWIZM Collections

In the museum there are 10 cabinets from the CABI collections and 6 cabinets from the UWI and ICTA collections containing around 30 families. The collection contains examples of nests as well as the species that made them.
