Republic Bank Sustainability Expo - Transforming Talk into Action

September 13 -14, 2024, Centre of Excellence, Macoya

The Sir Arthur Lewis Institute of Social and Economic Studies (SALISES) proudly showcased its research and academic programs at the Republic Bank’s Sustainability Expo, held at the Centre of Excellence, Macoya, from September 13-14, 2024. The Expo, themed "Transforming Talk into Action", provided a vibrant, interactive platform for diverse sectors to demonstrate their commitment to sustainable business practices and innovative climate solutions. At our booth, visitors had the opportunity to communicate directly with our researchers, exploring the important work SALISES is doing to support the global transition toward a greener and more resilient future.  Our ongoing research initiatives in this area spans several key areas such as:

  • Climate Financing: Investigating financial models that facilitate climate adaptation and mitigation, particularly in Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and other vulnerable regions.
  • Sustainable Development: Examining the intersection of economic growth, environmental sustainability, and social equity, with a particular focus on the Caribbean context.
  • Policy Recommendations: Providing data-driven insights to policymakers on strategies for addressing environmental challenges and promoting inclusive, sustainable development.

In addition to our research, SALISES also had the opportunity to highlight its graduate programs, offering attendees an in-depth look at our academic offerings that prepare future leaders in sustainable development and various other key areas. Visitors to the booth were invited to participate in interactive games on Carbon Footprint and Sustainable Financing, which provided a fun yet educational way to engage with these key topics. The Expo allowed us to connect with a wide-ranging audience, including leaders from the energy, finance, agriculture, and other sectors, strengthening our collaboration with industry stakeholders and academic partners. Through events like these, SALISES continues to reinforce its role in shaping a sustainable future for the Caribbean and beyond.
