Professor Chowdary obtained his Ph.D. in Manufacturing Systems at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India in 1998, his M. Tech. in Industrial Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology, Delhi, India in 1990 and his B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering at Nagarjuna University, India, 1986.

He joined the Department of Mechanical Engineering in 2003 as a Lecturer and now currently holds the posts of Professor and Deputy Dean Research & Postgraduate Affairs in the Faculty of Engineering. Prior to this he was  Head of Department, Mechanical and Manufacturing Engineering and a Faculty member / Postdoctoral Researcher, at Department of Production Systems Design, University of Groningen, The Netherlands for the period 2000 to 2002.

His research interests include CAD/CAM, Product Design and Development, Flexible Manufacturing Systems, Simulation of Manufacturing Systems, Design of Virtual Cellular Manufacturing Systems, and Performance Evaluation of Manufacturing Systems.

Professor Chowdary is currently a Core Member of National Technical Committee (NTC) on Metrology at Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards (TTBS), Trinidad. He was a Member of Planning, information, knowledge & operations research programme, SOM Research School, University of Groningen, Netherlands.Professor Chowdary won a National award for the 'Best Case Study' paper published in Indian Institution of Industrial Engineering Journal, Integrated Manufacturing Performance Measure for Advanced Manufacturing Systems.
