ABSTRACT: This presentation will give insight into a research area known as Games for Health, particularly in the field of motion based games. Motion based gaming platforms such as the Nintendo Wii, PlayStation EyeToy, PlayStation Move and the Kinect have introduced new and exciting ways of combining play with exercise and physical therapy. This presentation will describe the various ways these platforms have been used for treatment of motion related diseases and/or health conditions. The presentation will then focus on how these devices can be used for diagnosing movement disorders. In particular, it will describe the Microsoft Kinect and examine the motion data it generates. The presentation will then explain how this data can be used to identify and possibly diagnose specific movement disorders such as Essential tremor and Parkinson's disease.
