The Employee Excellence Awards

Selection Process

1. The award recipient will be determined via a three-part selection process as described below:

  • Nominations can be made by any full-time employee assigned to work at the University of the West Indies. All nominations MUST be submitted on the nomination/scoring form to the Awards Secretariat or using the online application by Wednesday 18 November, 2015. Only signed forms with accompanying evidentiary requirements will be accepted and reviewed. An electronic signature is acceptable.
  • The Awards Secretariat then collects stores and verifies that the nomination form has been completed according to university requirements. If addition information is needed the Awards Secretariat then contacts persons nominating for this information.
  • The list of the nominees is sent to Awards Panel to evaluate each nominee using the EE rubric (See below). The Awards Panel will then reviews and score each nominee. The nominee with the highest score will then be named the Employee of the Year. The Award Catergories are:
    • Category One: Employee Excellence Overall (employee with the highest overall ratings)
    • Category Two: Employee Excellence (1st, 2nd and 3rd):
      • Senior Administrative and Professional Staff
      • Administrative, Technical and Service Staff
      • Daily Paid Staff
      • Estate Police
    • Category Three: “Honorary Mention” refers to those persons who underwent a peer reviewed assessment by the Awards Panel, passed the minimum standard of attainment (e.g. above 60% overall rating) but did not receive a 1st, 2nd or 3rd place award.

 

2. The scoring system will consist of a total of 100 points broken down into the following format:

  • 20 points for sufficient evidentiary requirements that prove the nominee has been outstanding with regard to “Job Related Knowledge and Skills”
  • 20 points for sufficient evidentiary requirements that prove the nominee has been outstanding with regard to “Critical and Creative Thinking Skills”
  • 10 points for sufficient evidentiary requirements that prove the nominee has been outstanding with regard to “Responsible Attitude and Work Life Balance”.
  • 10 points for sufficient evidentiary requirements that prove the nominee has been outstanding with regard to “Institutional Loyalty and Engagement”
  • 20 points for sufficient evidentiary requirements that prove the nominee has been outstanding with regard to “Positive Customer Service”
  • 20 points for sufficient evidentiary requirements that prove the nominee has been outstanding with regard to “Respectful and Ethical Behaviour”

3. Sufficient evidence is required for nominee to be considered for EE award. Evidence for the purposes of the EE award process will be considered as any document (No more than two (2) pages) that proves nominee has been outstanding with regards to the following attributes:

  • Job related knowledge and skills
  • Critical and creative thinking skills
  • Responsible attitude and work life balance
  • Institutional Loyalty and Engagement
  • Positive Customer Service
  • Respectful and Ethical Behaviour

4. The winning nominee is selected based on the total combined score.

5. In the event of a tie, the Awards Panel will carefully examine supporting comments and evidence to determine the winner.

6. Nominees are required to complete the nomination form in full and provide the requisite evidentiary requirements to satisfy the criteria for assessment (incomplete nomination forms or inadequate evidence submission will result in the non-acceptance of the application)
