PHYS 1001 Introduction to Astronomy
COURSE DESCRIPTION:
This course develops the ideas of Ancient Astronomy including archaeoastronomy and history of astronomy leading up to the contributions of Copernicus, Brahe, Galileo and Newton. Optics and instrumentation. The solar system, stars: composition and evolution, white dwarfs, neutron stars, black holes. Extragalactic Astronomy: Galaxies, dark matter, dark energy, Cosmology. Life in the Universe.
