Welcome to The University of the West Indies – Global School of Medicine (UWI-GSM), where we offer a world-class MD programme at our St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago! As the country’s first international medical school, the UWI-GSM provides a state-of-the-art learning environment at our South Campus in Penal-Debe, featuring modern dormitories, lecture halls, library and study spaces, a pool and other recreational facilities. Our St. Augustine Campus has proudly produced award-winning and internationally recognised medical professionals, from epidemiologists to neurosurgeons. With our university’s strong legacy of over 75 years in medical education, we continue to provide a globally recognised education backed by a commitment to academic excellence and medical training that meets international standards.

The University of the West Indies (The UWI) is globally recognised, ranking amongst the best universities in the world according to Times Higher Education (THE). Since 2018, The UWI has been consistently ranked among the world’s best universities and is the only Caribbean university included in THE’s ranking. The UWI-GSM secured Candidacy status in January 2025 from the Caribbean Accreditation Authority for Education in Medicine and Other Health Professions (CAAM-HP), and this is just the beginning. Accreditation has also been granted by the Accreditation Council of Trinidad and Tobago (ACTT).
