General Programme Information
What programmes does the Global School of Medicine offer, and what are their durations?
- Qualifying Courses: 12 to 15 months, starting August 2025
- MD in Medicine: 4 years, starting August 2026
What is the structure of the MD programme, and how does it differ from other medical degrees?
The MD is a four-year programme, consisting of:
- Two years of basic sciences training
- Two years of clinical training
The degree is awarded by The University of the West Indies (UWI), which has a 70-year history of producing high-quality medical professionals.
If I do not have a BSc degree, can I still apply?
Yes, you can still apply. Applicants without a Bachelor’s degree (BSc)—such as those with ‘A’ Levels or an Associate Degree—may be required to complete qualifying courses, as determined by the School’s Admissions Committee.
How does the transition from the Qualifying Courses to the MD programme work?
Students who achieve a GPA of 3.0 or higher will meet the academic criteria for admission to the MD degree. For further details, please visit our webpage: “Admission to the MD Degree.”
Is the MD degree internationally recognized, and can graduates practice in countries like the US, UK, Canada, or India?
Yes, but graduates must register with the respective Medical Council in their chosen country to practice.
Are other criteria considered in the admissions process?
Yes. Applicants will have an advantage if they demonstrate:
- Strong communication skills (e.g., completion of writing-intensive courses).
- Teamwork experience in academic or professional settings.
- There will be an interview
Admissions & Eligibility
What are the academic qualifications required to apply for the MD programme?
Applicants must have a BSc in Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry. Other degrees may be considered by the entrance committee.
Applicants who show evidence of proficiency in biology, chemistry, and/or related disciplines and communication skills will have an advantage. Students who do not may be considered if they develop proficiency in these areas through qualifying courses.
Additionally, applicants must have an O-Level certificate or equivalent, including passes in Mathematics, English, and Physics.
What are the entry requirements for the qualifying courses?
Prospective candidates should have one of the following:
- A high school certificate (Grade 12 matriculation) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology, English, and a Foreign Language.
- At least five (5) passes at CXC (CSEC) General Proficiency (Grades I-III), GCE O-Levels, BSCSE (Grades A-C), or approved equivalents. Required subjects: English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics, and a Foreign Language.
- Consideration will be given to students transferring from other fields into health professions.
Is an entrance exam or standardized test (e.g., MCAT, NEET) required for admission?
- American students: MCAT scores will be considered.
- Indian students: NEET scores will be considered.
- All applicants will be required to attend an interview
Are English proficiency tests (e.g., IELTS, TOEFL) required for non-native speakers?
Yes. Applicants must submit results from one of the recognized English proficiency tests.
Can students apply for direct entry into the MD programme if they already have a science-related degree?
Yes. Students with degrees in Biology, Chemistry, or Biochemistry or related discipline may apply for direct entry into the MD programme.
Financial Aid, Tuition & Scholarships
What are the tuition fees for the MD and the Qualifying Courses?
MD Programme:
Years 1 – 4 – $30,000 USD per year
Scholarships ranging between 26 – 40% available for those who apply before July 30, 2026
Qualifying Courses: Fees to be confirmed depending on the number of qualifying courses approved by the School Entrance Committee.
Are scholarships, grants, or financial aid available for international students?
Yes. Substantial scholarships will be available for the first cohort enrolling in August 2026.
Are the qualifying courses eligible for GATE funding for Trinidad and Tobago nationals?
No, GATE funding is not available for T&T nationals applying for the qualifying courses.
What is the estimated cost of living in Trinidad and Tobago, including accommodation, food, and transportation?
- Accommodation: USD$5,600 per year (based on single-room rates)
- Meals: USD$3,700 – USD$4,500 per year
- Personal expenses (toiletries, transportation, medical supplies): USD$1,600 per year
- Books & Learning Materials: USD$1,500 per year

Is on-campus housing available for international students?
Yes. Accommodation is available for:
- Students pursuing the qualifying courses at the St. Augustine Campus
- MD students at the Penal-Debe Campus
Are shuttle services provided between campuses and residence halls?
Yes. Shuttle services are available for students.
What student support services are available?
Students have access to:

What visa requirements do students from Africa and India need to meet, and what is the application process?
All foreign nationals that require e-visas to enter Trinidad or Tobago need to apply for it online through either of the links provided below.

Students must have the following:
- Digital passport compliant photo
- Submitted photos must adhere to the specified requirements. The Immigration Division reserves the right to request a new photo if deemed necessary.
- JPEG, PNG or BMP
- Between 15 KB and 7584 KB
- Between 480 pixels wide by 640 pixels high and 4800 pixels wide by 6400 pixels high

- Required supporting documentation

What clinical rotation or internship opportunities are available for MD students?
All clinical rotations can be completed in Trinidad & Tobago. International rotations in the USA and UK are currently being negotiated.
Can students choose where they do their clinical rotations?
Students will have options for selecting their clinical training locations, subject to their meeting the requirements for visas to the country selected.
