Pre-Health Professional Programme (PHPP)

Overview

The Pre-Health Professionals Programme (PHPP) is a one-year (two-semester) certificate programme delivered by the Faculty of Medical Sciences at The UWI St. Augustine Campus in Trinidad and Tobago. The PHPP is specifically designed to prepare candidates for matriculation into degree programmes in Medicine/Surgery, Dentistry, Veterinary Medicine, Pharmacy and Optometry.

The curriculum is built around core pre-medical and pre-health courses in English, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and Mathematics, delivered across the regular first and second semesters (September–December and January–May). To successfully complete the PHPP, students must achieve a final grade of 65% (B+) or above in all courses to matriculate into their chosen degree programme.

Entry Requirements

Prospective candidates must meet one of the following:

  1. A high school certificate (Grade 12 matriculation) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Biology and English; or
     
  2. Passes in at least five (5) subjects at CXC (CSEC) General Proficiency (Grades I–III from 1998; Grades I–II pre-1998), GCE O-levels, BSCSE (Grades A–C), or  approved equivalents — including English Language, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology, Physics and a foreign language.
