Dr. Gene Leon

Biography

Dr. Gene Leon, IMF Senior Resident Representative to Jamaica, has extensive experience in the Caribbean. A national of St. Lucia, he has been at the IMF for 15 years, most recently in the Middle East and Central Asia Department, contributing to key analytical and policy initiatives, undertaking program as well as bilateral and multilateral country surveillance, and delivering technical assistance. Key assignments have included developing the first Fund program for Iraq and leading teams working on the countries of the Gulf Cooperation Council (Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates). Dr. Leon was the head of research at Central Bank of Barbados, as well as an associate professor at the State University of New York. He holds a PhD in economics from the University of Southampton, United Kingdom, and his research interests include economic modeling and forecasting, and risk management
