Angelique V. Nixon
Angelique V. Nixon is a writer, artist, teacher, scholar, activist, and poet – born and raised in The Bahamas. She earned her Ph.D. in English specializing in postcolonial studies, Caribbean literature, and women and gender studies at the University of Florida. She teaches and writes about Caribbean studies, African diaspora literatures, feminist and postcolonial theories, and gender and sexuality studies. Her work has been published widely in several academic and creative journals, namely Anthurium, Black Renaissance Noire, Journal of Caribbean Literature, MaComere, ProudFlesh, small axe salon, and WomanSpeak. She is author of the poetry and art collection Saltwater Healing - A Myth Memoir and Poems published by Poinciana Paper Press in a letterpress cover, hand-bound, limited edition. She is in the process of publishing her first scholarly book titled Resisting Paradise: Tourism, Diaspora, and Sexuality in Caribbean Literature and Culture. Angelique is deeply invested in grassroots activism and is involved with several organizations, including the Ayiti Resurrect, Caribbean IRN, and Critical Resistance.
