About "Proceeds to Mental Health" Series 2012-13
"In these images I have imagined my own lifelong horror of the relationship between spatial design and depression and paralysis. This series attempts to draw out how I feel and sense environments and how spaces can act as a trigger. The archetype that I have used is informed by my memories of the kind of treatment meted out to people in schools, churches, asylums, factories, [government buildings]; treatment that ranged from corporal punishment to psychological abuse. I've always paid attention to my own mental state in relation to context/environment and that is no different to how other people feel as well. I believe that the design of physical spaces contains or reflects all the coordinates of cultural and social norms."
