Shari Phoenix

Shari Phoenix
Shari Phoenix is a contemporary artist living and working in Barbados. Battling against and confronting representations of women and People of Colour through highly detailed watercolour paintings, her work interrogates societal views of the Black body, ideals of perfection and beauty, and the recurring use of caricature. Born in 1997, she completed her Associate’s degree in Visual Art in 2016 and her Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts at the Barbados Community College.
Her practice has developed into three major bodies of work: “Grotesque Eve,” “Pin Up Rebel,” and “Are You Offended?” Each series poses critical questions and creates dialogue around the themes central to her work.
Her work has been exhibited internationally at Prizm Art Fair Miami, as well as in several local exhibitions. She has also collaborated with international artist Philippe Dodard on the National Cultural Foundation’s Mural Project at its headquarters.
