Tessa Alexander

Tessa Alexander is a visual artist from Trinidad and a practice-based Cultural Studies PhD candidate. Her research examines the matriarchal painting legacies of her Igbo, West African and Bihari, East Indian foremothers. She holds an MFA in Cultural Studies and an AA in fashion design. Alexander works primarily in watercolour, employing fluidity, colour, and materiality to articulate Caribbean aesthetics, while combining handmade paper, archival imagery, and cultural embellishments. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally, appeared on the cover of Ins and Outs (2022), and is held in collections including the Central Bank of Trinidad and Tobago and The Parliament.
