Carol B. Duncan  is a creative writer and professor in the Department of Religion and Culture at Wilfrid Laurier University in Waterloo, Canada. She holds BA, MA and PhD degrees in sociology. Her research interests include the study of Caribbean religion in transnational contexts, the African Diaspora, and gender studies and popular culture. Duncan is the author of This Spot of Ground: Spiritual Baptists in Toronto, a co-author of Black Church Studies: An Introduction and co-editor of Womanist and Black Feminist Responses to Tyler Perry’s Productions and The Black Church Studies Reader. She served as a section editor and contributor to The Encyclopedia of Caribbean Religions and has a chapter in the Oxford Handbook of Caribbean Religions. Born in England of Antiguan and Guyanese parentage, and raised in Antigua and Canada, Caribbean folklore and storytelling are important sources of inspiration in her creative writing. Her short stories have been published in the anthology African Ghost Short Stories and the literary magazines Tales and Feathers, FIYAH Magazine of Black Speculative Fiction, Augur Magazine, Heartlines Spec, Pree Magazine of Caribbean Writing and Apparition Magazine. Current projects include a speculative fiction short story collection, a novel and a scholarly study of black religion and popular culture.
