MSc/MPhil/PhD

The Department offers MPhil and PhD research degrees on either a part-time or full-time basis. MPhil and PhD students are required to complete 6/9 credits of taught master's courses. Interested applicants are required to consult with the Department to ensure that research facilities are available for their research area. The Board for Graduate Studies and Research offers a limited number of scholarships to students of the highest academic standing registering for MPhil/PhD. Some departmental funding in the form of teaching assistantships and demonstratorships are available for registered MPhil/PhD students not on scholarship.

The MPhil and PhD are research degrees awarded on the submission and successful defence of a thesis.  Each MPhil/ PhD student must do a minimum of 8/9 credits at graduate level. Interested applicants should consult the Head of the Department concerning available research facilities.

Most courses are delivered as technology-enhanced courses or through fully blended leaning delivery. The university has adopted Moodle Leaning Management System as its delivery platform and this is integrated with the Banner Student Information System. Teaching in the department is supported by state-of–the-art computer laboratories where students gain hands-on experience in the subject area.
