1. What is a Remedial Course?

A Remedial course is a course that is offered to students who are repeating failed courses.

 

2. I am unable to register for a course that I have previously attempted.  I have the prerequisites but I still cannot register for it.

This is because the course you are trying to register for is a Remedial course and overrides are required for all Remedial courses. Overrides must be submitted online. These requests go directly to the Head of Department for approval. Once approved online, you will see your course added to your registration.

 

3. Will the summer courses be delivered online or face-to-face?

The courses from the Faculty of Science and Technology’s Pre Science (N1) Summer Programme will be delivered and assessed via online means only.

 

4. How can I access Registration?

Registration is accessed online only.

 

5. How do I register if I am a current student?

  • Students would be required to log into the http://my.uwi.edu/ portal.
  • Open MySecure area in the Launchpad.
  • Go to Registration.
  • Go to Registration Map and Guide.
  • You would then need to click on the following ([201930] Enter Semester 3 Courses)
  • Students would then need to submit an Override for the desired courses.
  • Your request would be submitted to the office and would be processed.
  • Feedback would be given within three (3) to four (4) working days.

 

6. How do I register for summer courses if I am a NON-UWI student?
Non-UWI students must complete the FST online application form to gain access to register for FST Summer courses.  Approval must be given firstly by the Coordinator and then secondly by the Dean, FST.  Once the request receives approval, it is processed and the student will receive access to register online for the course(s).  The student is contacted within 3 to 4 days (usually by email) and informed accordingly.

 

7. How do I contact the Dean’s Office, Faculty of Science and Technology?

You can email FST.PreScience@sta.uwi.edu for any information.

 

8. What do I do if I get a Level Restriction Override?

For all Remedial courses, students will receive a Level Restriction.

Overrides must be submitted online. These requests go directly to the Coordinator for approval. Once approved online, you will see your course added to your registration.

 

9. What do I do if I get a Pre-requisite Override?

Students must complete and receive the necessary approvals in order to be able to register.

  1. Submit the completed FST Override Form to the Dean’s Office.
  2. Approval must be given firstly by the Coordinator and then secondly by the Dean, FST. 
  3. Once the request receives approval, it is processed and the student will receive access to register online for the course(s). 
  4. The student is contacted within 3 to 4 days (via email) and informed accordingly.

 

10. How do I know if my override has been denied?

If an override is denied, you will see the decision “denied” where you have submitted the override online.
Note: You will not be able to submit a second override for the same course online.

 

11. What do I do if I have deleted an override online in error?
If you have deleted the submitted override in error, you will not be able to submit a second override online.  You will have to complete an FST Override Form and forward the completed form to the Dean’s Office at FST.PreScience@sta.uwi.edu.

Step 1: The coordinator grants first approval.

Step 2:   Second approval granted by the Dean, FST.

Step 3: Once approved, a manual override will be entered into the system for you to register.   This would say Override Permitted: Yes

Step 4:  You may now register online to complete your registration

 

12. What do I do if I get a Major Restriction Override?

A Major Restriction Override must be submitted online. These requests go directly to the Coordinator for approval. Once approved online, you will see your courses added to your registration.

 

13. What do I do if I get a Closed Section Override?

A Closed Section Override must be submitted online. Once the override is approved by the Coordinator, the course would automatically be added to your registration.

 

14. How do I register online after getting approval for a manual Closed Section Override?

If you get a manual override for a closed section, you must register using the (CRN) Course Reference Number in the boxes provided on the registration page. Then, click submit and the course would automatically be added to your registration.

 

15. What do I do if I get a Maximum Credit Override?

A Maximum Credit Override must be submitted online. These requests go to the Dean, FST directly for approval. When approval is given online, the student would see the course in their registration.

However, if you get a manual credit override, you must register for yourself online to complete your registration.

 

16. How long will my override take to be processed online?

Overrides would be processed within 3 to 4 days. If you do not get a response by then, please send an email to FST.PreScience@sta.uwi.edu.

 

17. If I have a logging on error to Banner Web or ELearning, what do I do?

You would only be allowed three attempts to log on, thereafter, you will need to send an email directly to the helpdesk to reset their password.

18. Whom should I contact about my financial query?

The Bursary handles all financial matters. You can email the Bursary directly at Studentaccounts.Pre-Science@sta.uwi.edu for all financial queries.

 

19. Whom should I contact about my GATE issue?

You should contact the GATE Office directly via email at gate.info@moe.gov.tt for all GATE related matters.

 

20. Whom should I contact about academic matters relating to a course?

Please send an email to FST.PreScience@sta.uwi.edu  for all academic matters related to any Pre-Science courses.
