The theme for this year is, "Better relations between women and men" which focuses on improving gender relations and promoting gender equality between men and women. As we work toward achieving gender justice we must challenge harmful gender norms and stereotypes in order to together create peace and care for each other. Call to Action. Nov 25. International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women. Nov 25 to Dec 10. 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence.
In March 2018, The Institute for Gender and Development Studies called for a private sector strategy to address Violence Against Women.
Today, thanks to the Coalition Against Domestic Violence (CADV) and the T&T Chamber of Industry and Commerce, there is now a Domestic Violence in the Workplace Policy which can be adopted by companies across T&T and the Caribbean region. In addition, there is the beginnings of a communication campaign and steps toward roll out of training sessions on policy implementation.
The Coalition Against Domestic Violence, TT Chamber, Ansa McAl Group of Companies, First Citizens Bank, AMCHAM, Inter-American Development Bank (IADB) and other companies have been a part of moving this forward step by step in recognition of the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence. During this annual international campaign, it is critical that companies show visible understanding of corporate social responsibility, and how this relates to supporting the DV in the Workplace Policy.

Marriage Acts of T&T
The Act, No. 8 of 2017 is an Act to amend the Marriage Act, Chap.45:01, the Muslim Marriage and Divorce Act, Chap. 45:2, the Hindu Marriage Act, Chap. 45:3, the Orisa Marriage Act, Chap.45:4 and the Matrimonial Proceedings and Property Act, Chap.45:51, which raises the legal age of marriage to 18, effectively outlawing child marriage. The Bill was passed in Parliament June 9, 2017, without amendments, with 35 members voting for, zero against and zero abstentions.
