The Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS) of the St Augustine Campus of the UWI, formerly the Centre for Gender and Development Studies (CGDS), is committed to a programme of teaching, research and outreach, which, among other things, seeks an understanding of the world which takes women and men, their lives and achievements into account. The IGDS’ objective is to produce and disseminate knowledge based on the generation and analysis of research data on women, men and/or gender-related issues in the Caribbean.
The IGDS works with the digitizing department of the Alma Jordan Library to upload its archives to the UWISpace.
The UWISpace platform includes: papers, outcome documents and proceedings of workshops and conferences and affiliate, associate and Institute staff and student research, course information and other material or the Centre for Gender and Development Studies (CGDS) and the The Institute for Gender and Development Studies (IGDS).

The Making of Feminisms in the Caribbean [sic] project is founded on the belief that the impulse to further feminist theorising and activism needs to be transmitted to a younger generation. The first and second waves of the Women’s Movement in the Caribbean require documentation to preserve its history and to bring the movement into historical perspective. One of the outcomes is the creation of a digital collection which highlights the activities of the Caribbean feminist movement in The University of the West Indies digital repository, UWISpace and a physical collection on Caribbean Feminisms housed in the West Indiana and Special Collections section of The UWI Alma Jordan Library, St. Augustine Campus, which provides a corpus of relevant historical and documentary materials on feminist activism, since the start of the 20th Century, from which teaching and further research may emanate.
