COURSE DESCRIPTION

This course is designed to help students improve their learning effectiveness, attitudes, and motivation. The following are part of the curriculum: Time management, concentration, coping with life challenges and studying, note taking skills, textbook study methods, test taking strategies, and critical thinking skills. Teaching and learning will be done by mixed mode with traditional lectures supported by online components. This course is also well suited to being taught fully online in the COVID era mode. There will be continuous assessments with 100 % coursework for this programme.  The assessments will employ different methodologies such as multiple-choice tests, group work with presentations, journal writing and term research paper. Course components will be adapted to highlight the approach for online learning given the new era we are now in.

 

Course Aims

The course will allow students to:

  • Improve learning effectiveness, attitudes and motivation for scientific study.

  • Develop an appreciation and understanding of the ways to maximize strategies such as time management and concentration to enhance performance in examinations.

  • Understand the value of ethics inclusive of plagiarism and academic honesty.

  • Develop an awareness of the latest research and techniques in learning.

  • Engage in practice in note taking skills and test taking strategies.

  • Connect all aspects of the course to engage in critical thinking skills applied to problem solving.
